26 Germain Street, Saint John, NB — A beloved uptown Saint John space is getting a flavorful new chapter as local entrepreneurs Eunice and Sanat Gabdyssamet prepare to launch their latest venture, Umami Kid, a gourmet ramen restaurant set to open its doors in July.
The duo are no strangers to the uptown food scene. Many Saint John locals have already fallen in love with their vibrant bubble tea spot, Bubbly Cup, located at 120 Prince William Street. Known for its Instagram-worthy décor and welcoming vibe, Bubbly Cup quickly became a go-to spot for both casual visitors and social media influencers looking for the perfect backdrop.
Now, Eunice and Sanat are bringing their signature flair to a new project, giving an iconic restaurant location a fresh, family-friendly reboot. Originally from the Philippines, Eunice brings a wealth of culinary expertise to the table, including years of experience managing a Japanese restaurant in her home country. That passion for Japanese cuisine is now being channeled into Umami Kid, which will feature a menu full of authentic gourmet ramen and Japanese snacks, all crafted with care in Eunice’s own test kitchen.

The name “Umami Kid” is a heartfelt tribute to the couple’s young son, who also inspired the restaurant’s playful logo — a cartoon version of him joyfully slurping a bowl of ramen. It’s a nod to both family and flavor, perfectly capturing the essence of the new eatery.
Renovations are already underway, transforming the familiar uptown location into a bright and inviting space where families, foodies, and ramen lovers alike can gather.
“Saint John has such a vibrant uptown restaurant scene, and we’re so excited to bring something new — and delicious — to it,” says Eunice. “We want people to come for the food but also enjoy the experience, whether it’s a yummy grab ‘n go lunch or a fun night out.”
Keep your chopsticks ready — Umami Kid is slated to open just in time for summer, promising slurp-worthy bowls of ramen and an atmosphere bursting with warmth, creativity, and community.
Stay tuned for updates on the grand opening and sneak peeks at the menu as June approaches!
