91 PRINCESS STREET, SAINT JOHN. I was so thrilled to see a cool new sign appear on Princess Street. Elwood’s Wood Lab is now open and their sign is perfect!

“We are reconstructing history from within our joinery in Saint John, NB. Using a variety of reclaimed wood and steel from around New Brunswick, Elwood’s Wood Lab creates character rich crafted furniture and lighting for customers around the world.” ~ About Elwood’s Wood Lab from their WEBSITE

Why is signage important? Your sign is part of your business’ image and a part of your branding strategy. The type of sign that you choose says a lot about your business. It conveys a message about the type of clientele that you cater to i.e. refined/upscale/hipster/young/mature.

INTERVIEW WITH ELWOOD’S ABOUT THEIR NEW SIGN

Q. Is there a back story behind the design of it?

A. With the location of our business just on the edge of where people not familiar with Saint John, it became very important for our new business to have something visible that would draw people up from the corner of Germain and Princess. Our business being what it is, we had to of course craft something ourselves, which would showcase our products character and quality.

Q.Did you have to get approval from heritage and was that difficult to obtain?
A. We obtained approval from heritage. Following their guides recommendations closely, obtaining approval was very easy.

Q. Who made it?  (This is a standard question but I would have been very surprise if they had not made it themselves!)
A. We made both the sign and hanger. The sign is constructed out of 130-year old Douglas Fir. (AWESOME!)

Q. What was involved in making the sign?
A. It took us approximately three days to build.

Q. Would you be willing to make signs for others?
A. We are willing to look at making signs for others. We would not get involved in installations.
